Top 5 Content Based Link Building Ideas You Should Implement Today

1) Guest Blogging Not in the Traditional Sense

We all know about that Google’s Matt Cutts has recently came out and said that a major crackdown came down penalizing guest blogging networks.  Guest blogging for the sole intent of getting links back via content is at this stage of the digital marketing game frowned upon and is viewed as spam.  Now I’m not proposing going out and paying blog networks for guest blog posts.  I am proposing that the content on your site itself  be so influential and beneficial to the user that it brings value to that niche community.  So it all starts with your site. If you establish being a thought leader, relevant blogs will want you to guest post for them to add value to their communities.  With guest blogging you should not be even concerned with links as your primary focus. if you get a link great. If not then hopefully you, your service, or brand, got in front of the eyes of people that you may not have possibly reached otherwise. So if you don’t receive referral traffic in the form of a link from some source, it doesn’t mean that a visitor to an external blog your guesting posting on is not referred to by the content itself.  At the end of the day you want to get qualified traffic to your site.

2) Utilize Social Media Channels

The best example of this is utilizing Google+ authorship.  All content on your websites should either be associated with the brand “publisher” or contributors of content to specific sources “author”.  By tagging your existing content you can amplify it on Google+ and have many positive results.  You can increase social signals to the content that is being highlighted, you put your content in the eyes of more potential customers, you find possible partnerships to promote your content, as well as many other possible opportunities.

You not only want to promote existing content on social media channels, but a unique content experience for each channel.  Although you don’t want to shove links in posts, when applicable you can place a hyperlink with a broad anchor linking to a blog post or a targeted landing page from a piece of unique social media content.

3) Create Educational Content

If you are trying to get links from educational institutions, give something of value not simply a link. If your in the health industry, conduct a study with information a specific department can use. Another great idea and fairly low on the difficulty scale is alumni sections of universities that offer profile links.

4) Curated Content for New Blogs and Communities

Some blogs and websites are just starting out in your vertical. You as the thought leader can provide them with useful content that both benefits your site and theirs. As their communities and sphere of influence grows their sites grows in authority and the blog or any other type of content you provided them with a link back to your site grows in value.

5) Get Interviewed

One of the best ways to promote your product, brand, or service is to get interviewed by industry related publications or websites. Now it does not necessarily some crazy interview. You can give a brief opinion and get quoted about a relevant topic. This and many other link building strategies or a lot easier if you start to establish your brand as a thought leader and an authority in your field as early as possible.
